The Presenter
Photographing female models has been a nearly lifelong endeavor for Jay GreenMan. Having gotten his first camera at age seven, he got hooked on the "art" of photography from an early age and has remained so ever since. As a teenager, he practiced shooting still lifes, abstracts, landscapes, sports and candids and then began working on portraiture. By analyzing the images of some of his favorite photographers, he started trying to duplicate their style.
He began shooting basic glamour and simple nudes when he was just eighteen. Working at first with friends, then some part time paid models, Jay kept polishing his style and building his portfolio. For the next 15 years, he worked with models every chance he got, shooting both portraits and nudes, still as a "hobby" apart from his main career. In 1994, he began shooting professionally. He did custom portraits and shot portfolios for new models. Prints of his work were featured in several exhibits in the San Francisco and Monterey Bay Areas. He also began teaching small photography workshops such as those being offered here. In the late 1990's many of his images were licensed to several fairly new web sites including DOMAI, MetArt, and others, which led to a higher demand to see more of his work.
In 2002, Jay moved to Portland, Oregon and continued with photography as a full time career. His web gallery "Grace and Beauty" was launched in December of that year and has been growing ever since. His work has been featured on several other internet sites as well.
In addition to being a photographer with a gift for bringing out the character and beauty in his models, Jay is also a skillful instructor. He believes in offering students clear and helpful information that will enable them to find their own particular style. His photographic work is very intuitive and he helps students learn how to unlock their own creative process while exploring the fun and challenging field of creating glamour and fine art nudes!
